Appointments

Non-urgent advice: Please cancel unwanted appointments!

You may be shocked to learn that in 2023 at Stoneham Lane Surgery, of the 46145 appointments booked, 2363 were wasted due to patients not turning up - That's 1 in 20 appointments, or 623 hours of GP and nurse time!

Urgent Same-Day Appointments

For urgent same day appointments please call the surgery on 02380555776.

We have book-on-the-day appointments available for urgent problems with our nurse practitioners and our GPs.  Our nurse practitioners are highly skilled and experienced nurses who are able to assess, prescribe and refer for many health problems, and can involve the GP if required. Your usual GP may not be available and you will need to be prepared to see another GP or nurse practitioner.

Routine GP Appointments

Routine appointments can be made with the GP of your choice up to 3 weeks in advance by the following methods:

-call the surgery on 02380555776 (avoid the mornings as the phones can be very busy at those times)

- book online using the NHS App or  SystmOnline

Don't have an NHS login? it's easy to sign up on the NHS website.

Need to register for SystmOnline?  - see the Register for online services page.

Home Visits

Home visits can be requested by calling the surgery on 02380555776.

If you require a same-day home visit please contact the surgery by 10:30am to enable the GPs to plan and prioritise their workload.

Please note that home visits are only for patients who are genuinely housebound and are unable to get to the surgery for medical reasons.

You may be telephoned by the GP first to assess your request.

Nurse appointments

Appointments with one of the practice nurses can be requested by calling the surgery on 02380555776.

Our practice nurses undertake a wide range of tasks including injections, dressing changes, vaccinations, asthma checks, ear syringing and chronic disease reviews.

Blood tests

Appointments with one of our healthcare assistants can be requested by calling the surgery on 02380555776 or by coming to the front desk.

Please inform the receptionist whether you need to be fasting for the test.

Please note that you should only book an appointment for a blood test if this has been discussed with a GP or nurse first.

Blood tests can also be booked at Southampton General Hospital by phone and online (Over 16 only):

By phone: ring 023 8120 4877 Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00

Late evening routine appointments are available until 7:20pm  (19:20) on alternate Mondays.

Saturday morning routine appointments are available from 8:00am (08:00) once a month.

These can be booked by phone or online in the same way as normal routine appointments, up to 3 weeks in advance.

Help us run to time!

Our GP and nurse practitioner appointments are 10 minutes long.

Please ensure you arrive in good time and check in using the automatic console.

To help us run to time, please do not save up several problems to discuss in one appointment. In general one problem can be dealt with in each 10-minute appointment. You may be asked to rebook to discuss additional problems. Alternatively it may be preferable to request a double slot when booking a routine appointment.

Sometimes, due to medical emergencies, delays are unavoidable. Thank you in advance for your understanding in such circumstances. We will endeavour to keep you informed of delays as and when they happen.

We are a GP training practice

We are very pleased to have four GP registrars working with us. GP registrars are fully qualified doctors who are undergoing their final 18 months of GP training. Dr Hamid, Dr Greenfield and Dr Westmacott are GP trainers who oversee their progress.

On occasion the GP registrar will request that the consultation is recorded on video. This is to aid their training. Videos are not shared or broadcast in any way except with the GP trainer for 1:1 feedback sessions and are deleted afterwards. Full patient confidentiality is maintained.

Prior to any video recording you will be fully informed and your consent will be obtained. You are, of course, free to decline for your consultation to be videoed.

Medical and Nursing Students

We are proud to be involved in training the next generation of doctors and nurses by hosting medical and nursing students in the surgery. From time to time students will be sitting in with the GPs and nurses to gain valuable experience in general practice. If, however, you would prefer not to have students present please inform the receptionist.
